Coaching my toughest client yet

by LaTisha Styles  - August 3, 2024

In my last message I established why I transitioned from entrepreneur to intrapreneur and why I believe the pursuit of money created a tangled personal brand. In this third and final installment of the Burnout to Balance series, it’s time to unmangle it all.

It’s simple.

I plan to apply the marketing skills I’ve learned over the past 10 years to my own projects. I’ll coach myself in the same manner as I would any  client in the same situation.

I’ve coached multiple clients to 7-figure businesses, 6-figure incomes, and supported clients who just wanted to make their first dollar from their knowledge. I’m confident I have a good grasp on what makes a successful brand.

In my opinion, a successful brand clearly communicates a vision that creates value for a community.

I’ll be doing this rebranding in 3 phases; clarify the personal brand, communicate the message, and monetize the monetizable.

Phase 1: Clarify the personal brand

What is a personal brand?

A personal brand is a fairly new concept. I searched to find books written about the topic but most of what I found has been published within the last few years.

In 2023 the term reached peak popularity according to Google trends.

I believe reputation was the term used to describe the same concept. This article in Harvard Business Review defines the personal brand as how you want people to see you.

“Whereas reputation is about credibility, your personal brand is about visibility and the values that you outwardly represent.”

The personal brand is a result of the Information Age and the rise of social media. A personal brand builds trust through sharing information on a consistent basis through a personal perspective.

The person shares the information alongside their opinions, beliefs, and lifestyle. Those who relate will buy, subscribe, follow, or simply feel a sense of connection with the person.

Step 1: clarify my opinions, beliefs, and lifestyle

To clarify my personal brand, I must clarify my opinions, beliefs, and lifestyle. What follows is a short summary.

Opinions:

No matter what goal I choose to achieve, I either win or I learn. If I learn I win. I can create my own version of a lavish life. Wealth is a measure of love, life, and enjoyment.

Beliefs:

I believe in taking action to achieve my dreams. I believe I can turn ideas into income. I believe I am here to teach, share, and give.

Lifestyle:

I value time with loved ones and experiences over things. I don’t come from money; instead I create opportunities. I learn hard lessons from failing quickly and often.

Step 2: identify my community

Because of these opinions, beliefs, and lifestyle, I generated $1.2M over 8 years selling my skills and knowledge. But I’ve also made mistakes along the way that I can share to help others on their own journey. That’s why I must develop brand messaging that not only shares my beliefs, but also resonates with others on a similar journey.

Those in my community might have scattered ideas or unfinished projects, and that’s ok. These experiences are part of the process. The pursuit of goals, even if they seem out of reach, can lead to unexpected opportunities, whether it’s finding the right partner or discovering your ultimate career.

The notion that we should stick to a single career path throughout our lives is a misconception. As I grow and learn, my interests and passions evolve. What once energized me might now drain me, and that’s a natural part of personal growth. It’s more important to adapt and pursue fulfillment as we continue to become the best versions of ourselves.

These beliefs define what I call The Profit Creator. The words “profit” and “creator” embody my commitment to create value no matter the goals I choose to pursue.

The Profit Creator is a multi-passionate entrepreneur who thrives on creating value in all aspects of life—seeks growth and learning, and strives to make a meaningful impact while maintaining a fulfilling lifestyle.

Phase 2: Communicate the message

Now that I am clear on my personal brand and my tribe, I need to make sure my message flows through my website, and social media.  And ensure that my content does not confuse.

First I’ll update my website to reflect my personal brand and highlight my projects.

Next, I’ll create a simplified social media bio that describes what I’ve accomplished, the content I share, and why someone should follow.

Once my personal brand is updated, I’ll create a timeline to clean up each project one by one, preparing it to either stay or sell.

Phase 2 will roll out over the course of a few weeks, with the goal of completion by the fall equinox, September 22, 2024. This date is significant to me because when I was in Egypt in 2022 during the fall equinox I had a moment of clarity.

Phase 3: Monetize the monetizable

Once I fix all of the front facing assets for my personal brand, I can start organizing old projects and work on new ones. I used Coggle to organize what I’ve created so far. I have brands with great potential if they only had a focused message.

In the table below I’ve listed the three brands I would like to improve first.

She believed she could so she did

Before I close out this note, I want to emphasize that I’m thankful for all of the lessons this journey of entrepreneurship has taught me so far. I want to thank my husband for being brutally honest along the way. If not for his love and support, I probably would have made more mistakes. I also want to thank my sister for always cheering me on through everything. I remember celebrating the first dollar I made online with her.

This next chapter in my story is about creating value in everything I do whether it’s for a company, a client, or my community.

Cheers to becoming a true Profit Creator.
