Have you ever felt like you’re on the verge of something big, but your mindset keeps holding you back? I’ve been there, and it’s frustrating. Today, I’m sharing seven game-changing mindset shifts that not only transformed my approach to life and business, but were instrumental in helping me build my 7-figure business.
Let me share a quick story. Five years ago, I was struggling to make ends meet, bouncing from one failed business attempt to another. I was working 80-hour weeks, but barely making progress.
Then, I had a revelation: my mindset was the problem. I was operating with beliefs that were keeping me small and scared. Once I started shifting these beliefs, everything changed. Within 18 months, I had my first 6-figure year, and two years later, I finally reached my goal of earning 1 million dollars through a business.
These aren’t just theories – they’re battle-tested strategies that have helped me achieve financial success and find more fulfillment in life. Are you ready to transform your mindset and unlock your potential? Let’s dive in.
7-Figure Lesson: Your mindset shapes your reality, and reality shapes your success
1. Perception is reality: How you view life is how life is.
I learned this from a pastor who pointed out that if you walk into a room smiling, you’re likely to see smiles reflected back. This shift was crucial in my business journey. When I started viewing every challenge as an opportunity for growth rather than a setback, I began to see solutions everywhere.
For instance, when I lost a major client early in my business, instead of panicking, I saw it as an opportunity to diversify my client base. This led me to develop new services and ultimately expanded my business far beyond what that single client could have provided.
Historical example: Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right.” This mindset allowed him to revolutionize the automotive industry when others thought his ideas were impossible.
2. Subvert the dominant paradigm: Success often comes from challenging the status quo.
Look at Uber or Chick-fil-A – they mixed ideas and took leaps when no one else was. This mindset shift encouraged me to combine my skills in unique ways. I merged my background in psychology with digital marketing, creating a unique coaching program that addressed both business strategy and mindset. This became my flagship offering and a major contributor to my 7-figure success.
Don’t be afraid to combine concepts or be the first to try something new. What unique combination of skills or ideas could you bring to your industry?
3. Question the status quo: Sometimes we follow traditions without reason.
In business and life, asking “why?” can lead to breakthroughs. I used to believe I had to work 12-hour days to be successful because that’s what I saw other entrepreneurs doing. When I questioned this belief, I realized I could be more productive and happier working fewer, more focused hours. This allowed me to scale my business without burning out.
Historical example: Galileo questioned the accepted belief that the Earth was the center of the universe. His willingness to challenge the status quo led to groundbreaking scientific discoveries.
4. Put emotions in their place: You have emotions, but you are not your emotions.
When I couldn’t find my family at a fair, I felt frustration creeping in. Instead of letting it dictate my experience, I acknowledged it and chose to have a good time anyway.
This skill became crucial in business. When a launch didn’t go as planned or a client was unhappy, I learned to acknowledge my disappointment without letting it paralyze me. This emotional resilience allowed me to pivot quickly and find solutions, keeping my business on an upward trajectory.
5. Focus on the present: Being fully immersed in the moment helps achieve flow and reduces stress.
I find flow even in washing dishes – it becomes meditative when I’m fully present. In my business, this translated to giving my full attention to each task, whether it was creating content, coaching a client, or strategizing for growth. This level of focus dramatically improved the quality of my work and the results I achieved for my clients, leading to more referrals and rapid business growth.
6. See every “no” as a path to “yes”: In my call center days, I got cussed out at 9 a.m. on a Saturday. But I made the next call and moved on. Every “no” brings you closer to a “yes.”
This mindset was crucial when I was building my client base. I faced countless rejections, but each one taught me something about improving my pitch or refining my offerings. By the time I got to my first “yes,” my services were so well-honed that word-of-mouth referrals started pouring in.
Historical example: Thomas Edison famously said about his many failed attempts to invent the light bulb, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” This perseverance led to one of the most important inventions in history.
7. Strive for discipline: Discipline takes you further than motivation ever will.
I track habits like daily reading, even when I’d rather sleep. It’s about the freedom that comes from consistency. This discipline allowed me to consistently create content, engage with my audience, and improve my skills, even when I didn’t feel like it. Over time, this consistent effort compounded, leading to exponential growth in my business.
Bonus: Be grateful for what you have. When my internet went out during a live broadcast, I saw it as a chance to express gratitude for my ability to connect with my audience. This attitude of gratitude has helped me stay grounded and focused on serving my clients, even as technology malfunctioned.
Take Action:
- Identify one negative perception you have about your business or capabilities. Write down a positive alternative and consciously shift to this new perspective for a week. Journal about how this impacts your actions and results.
- Challenge a “rule” in your business. Ask why it exists and if it still serves you. If not, experiment with a new approach for two weeks and measure the results.
- Start a “rejection journal.” For the next month, log every business-related rejection you face. Next to each one, write down what you learned and how it’s bringing you closer to your goals.
- Implement a “power hour” in your daily routine. For one hour each day, focus intensely on your most important task with no distractions. Notice how this impacts your productivity and the quality of your work.
- Start a daily gratitude practice. List three things you’re grateful for in your business each morning. After a month, reflect on how this has shifted your mindset and approach to challenges.
