In 2010, blogging was still relatively new.
In fact, when I started my blog I had no idea it was even a blog.
I kept calling it a website.
I wanted to teach what I knew about finance to college students.
But then I found the personal finance community and I officially became a blogger.
The first year I struggled to get views, comments, and make any real money.
My goal was $300 a month, just enough to help with rent or my car payment.
11 months after I graduated I finally got a full-time job.
I kept blogging on the side, hoping the income would continue to increase.
And it did.
I started to make $500 a month then it grew to $1,000 a month, then close to $3,000 a month!
But it wasn’t until I learned how to tell my story that everything changed.
You see, when I was a kid, I wanted to be a teacher.
Then I grew up and decided that I would rather teach outside of the U.S. I considered joining the Peace Corps…
…until I started calculating my personal debt.
I had over $32,000 of debt!
When I realized that I had to make a decision based on debt, I was so frustrated.
I felt trapped.
So I decided to buckle down, put myself on a budget, and pay off every single dollar. It took me three years and a lot of sacrifice, but I was able to say that I did it.
I started writing a blog post about it. Then I created a video. and suddenly…
…I got an email from a writer at Business Insider.
She had seen my post and she wanted to do a story on me. I was shocked!
But I was not surprised that she found me.
I’ll tell you why.
I had spent the last 5 years building my online platform.
I created my blog, I filled it with helpful content, and I engaged with my readers as well as other bloggers online.
I cultivated my social media accounts by sharing my content and relevant content from other sites.
In essence, I built my online platform from nothing.
Want to be featured in national media? That type of exposure is available to you.
If I can do it, so can you.
And I’m going to teach you how to do it in 31 days, not 5 years.
In this series, I am pulling back the curtains and showing you everything I know about building a platform online.
I’m excited to share 31 Days to Building Your Online Platform.
These are the same strategies that I used to get quoted in Forbes, multiple speaking engagements, and…
…I even share why I was chosen to fly to New York (twice!) and spend the day shooting video content for a major bank.
These days blogging is not new.
And there are thousands of people all trying to do the same thing.
So how can you stand out?
You have to know your story and share it.
And as you share your story, you continue to build your platform.
That can turn into speaking engagements, a book deal, or even brand partnerships.
In 31 Days to Build Your Online Platform you’ll see exactly how you can build your brand and stand out.
